So stay awake.
You do not know either the day or the hour.
At the harvest so much is at stake.
If we care to make good flour.

I was watching the harvesters late at night.
Their lights on , engines pounding.
A looming orange pink twilight, what a sight.
Nature overcome, a vision of power sounding.

But at harvest everything is about timing.
Just as in Jesus’s warning.
To the bridesmaids to keep the lamps burning.
And to keep the oil refilling.

We do not know the hour when we are called.
We may end up appalled.

Not knowing the hour or day
When you will be called
