Send them away to go into the countryside.
And buy themselves something to eat.
The disciples were quick to decide.
Send them away, they said, to eat.

But Jesus was more loving.
He broke the loaves.
And divided them amongst the people assembling.
Five thousand in droves.

He looked up to heaven.
And gave a blessing.
A foretaste of communion’s leaven.
Changing , sanctifying.

The first communion.
Amongst all the people in union.

And he broke the bread and fish
