Whoever does not take up his cross.
Is not worthy of me.
But we ask what is my particular cross.
And then of course what, who really is me.

Whoever finds his life.
Will lose it.
And whoever for my sake loses his life.
Will gain it.

We know all that.
We know it is true.
But we fight all that.
Whether or not it’s true.

We want our comfort.
And that’s earth’s not heaven’s comfort.

We take up his cross
But only when it suits us
And are we happy
