You shall mourn and weep.

Help me to remember this vow.

And see this as a promise to keep .

Luke’s Gospel talks of happy and alas .

Happy the poor .

But I only remember this at Mass.

It does not reach the heart’s core.

We are told happy are  those now  hungry .

They will be satisfied.

And that we should go humbly.

And all this should be our guide.

So we just keep going forward.

Hoping to avoid the untoward.

We know this is truth

That the poor will be happy

But not for us now
