Sonnet

Do not babble as the pagans do.
Because they think that by using many words they will make themselves heard.
So is this prayer’s clue.
What distinguishes us from the herd.

The Our Father is so simple.
So powerful in its message.
In this great cacophony the merest dimple.
But we ask what does it presage.

It is this, he is there.
We acknowledge him to thrive.
We want to do his will here.
Give us just enough to survive.

Forgive us when we go wrong.
As we do to others all day long.

Haiku

Forgive us our wrong
As we forgive others’ wrongs
Again and again
