What can bring us happiness many say.

Lift up the light of your face on us O Lord .
The eternal question , of the can and the may.
Unhappiness cut with the spiritual sword.
I am at Compline at Downside for the last time .
Sitting now alone in the darkened Abbey .
And once again the old feeling of joy is sublime .
Will it come again , maybe .
You will not fear the terror of the night.
Nor the arrow that flies by day .
The darkness always pierced by your light.
Contentment clings like  silver clay .
Upon you no evil shall fall.
We can  pray and walk tall .
……
Here profound silence
The Abbey is quiet and still
Here then I can pray
